I was looking through my new baking cookbook tonight when Callum decided to check it out with me. He picked these three as his top picks for his birthday dessert this year.
I guess I better get crackin'! 😂😂😉

First day back in the pool
We've been having such nice weather lately, which has been making Jon and Callum want to play in the pool, so we turned the solar heating system back on, on Friday! The pool was about 55* or so when we started up the system, and today it was 68* (good progress but) Brrrr!!! ❄️
But, the kids didn't seem to mind too much (some friends from Seattle stopped by to visit on their way down South for their Spring Break road trip). They told me "it's cold, but after a few minutes you get used to it".
Ha!! I think I'll wait til it warms up to about 80* or so. ;-)

He totally fits in
We caught Boss Baby with the boys last night (which was quite funny for all of us actually!), and on the way out, Callum insisted I take his picture which this good looking team of monsters. ;-)
A motley crew
The boys have been looking pretty disheveled with their long moppy hair for awhile, I've just been lazy in setting up an appointment to get them a haircut (lazy and also avoiding the inevitable argument I always have to have with them about it). But, with warmer weather coming, and our big trip in a week where I'll be taking a lot of pics and want to actually see my kids' eyes, I decided I better do something about it.
So, here's the before, which I snapped quickly before it was time to head to the appointment.
You'll have to wait a week or two to see the after tho. ;-)

Callum out on the arena
Then it was Callum's turn!! And he did awesome!! I was totally impressed and afterward, his shocked teacher was whispering to me about how thrilled she was at his progress and she was amazed at how he did.
Remember, last time he tried riding the horse he was TERRIFIED and actually cried, super scared about falling off. He got off quickly and got back on after he saw Logan do well, but even then, would only ride a few steps at a time and never left the mounting/stable area.
But this last Friday he not only rode through the mounting area, but headed over to the arena and spent his lesson in the arena learning how to move forward and take turns. He was getting so cocky and confident that by the end, when he decided the lesson was done (but before his teacher was ready to call it), he turned the horse around and started riding back to the gate to leave. All on his own. She finally had to call out to him and make him "come back to get her" before they could leave and end the lesson. :)

More horseback riding!
Don't mind me, I'm just catching up on the last few days of events ;-)
Friday afternoon was the boys' second time riding horses!! Logan did great again, including several "trots" on his horse (which is amazing really, if you think about how this is his SECOND time on a horse - ever!!) 👍🏼

A last minute fancy dinner date!
This past Thursday night, I got a sitter and Jon came home early, so that we could head to our local middle school and listen to a "parent intro" talk from the principal and teachers there....since, in our particular district, kids entering 4th grade actually attend the middle school! So, Logan will be attending a new school next year. Crazy!
It's a little nerve wracking in some ways, to think my young innocent little 4th grader will be at the same school as those rowdy 8th graders! But, they do a good job keeping the 4-5th graders segregated from the bigger kids, so the only real exposure he'll have will be on the bus to/from school (which I'm not crazy about but what can you do?!?)
After the presentation, we thought we'd catch a late night movie, but nothing was showing at the right times. So, Jon suggested we give Plumed Horse (a favorite restaurant of ours) a call and amazingly, they had an available table for us!
Everyone at the restaurant who'd stop by our table would ask if we were celebrating anything in particular that night. We said not really, we just happen to have a sitter and a free night for once. So everyone then decided we were "celebrating freedom" - and offered to take our picture to commemorate it. ;-)
What a fun, spontaneous and delicious night out.
