The dog ate my homework!

Or in this case, my 2 year old son just shredded my insurance check.

Logan's home sick today. We noticed a minor cough and runny nose over the weekend but he started running a mild temperature last night that hit into full fever mode this morning. He was in a fairly good mood when he woke up, although as his fever has risen (between 103-104) he's become a lot more clingy and out of sorts unfortunately.

In any case, he was out playing in the living room when the mailman stopped by this morning. Logan picked up the mail from the floor (we have a slot through our front door) and handed it to me. Then he proceeded to walk back down the hallway. I thought he was back on his way to our room to finish watching his movie, when all of a sudden I hear our shredder's motor running. He had taken one of the pieces of mail with him, which I totally didn't see.

SHIT!

NO NO NO NO STOP LOGAN STOP!!

I caught him watching the last of an envelope being eaten by the shredder. Luckily, I stopped it before it shredded completely and was able to "salvage" a few bits and pieces. I spent the next hour sifting through to find any important information that could help me when calling the insurance company and convincing them to reissue the check.

I was actually pretty surprised at what I was able to piece together - the check number, amount (most of it), check date, and check "audit" number (on the back). With that, the customer service rep I spoke to was able to hunt the check down, cancel it and issue us a new one.

PHEW.

(For those who are wondering, we normally keep our shredder locked so that Logan can't shred anything, since he actually does like to shred papers under our supervision. Unfortunately, we had forgotten to lock it since the last item was shredded. LESSON LEARNED.)

At peace

I picked up Lola's ashes yesterday. They did a beautiful job with the urn and ceramic tile (including her own paw print). We plan to scatter her ashes along the lake in Tahoe that she loved to swim and chase ducks in, whenever we can make a trip up there next.

A new addiction

I just got a new app for my iPhone (called Hipstamatic) and I'm totally hooked! It's a neat little toy that gives your photos that ol' nostalgic analog feel we all grew up with (but that Logan and Baby #2 will never quite understand!).

I got totally carried away yesterday playing around with it, taking a ton of fun shots - the best $1.99 I've spent in a long time! ;-) Now the real catch is whether I SPLURGE and buy some more lenses and film types to play with.

Ohhhhh, the choices.

The following were taken using the Kodot Verichrome film with the John S Lens (which I think is probably my favorite pairing so far):

Spring has sprung!

We've had weird weather lately - freezing cold, then beautiful and sunny, then rainy, then not. It's just all over the board. But overall, I'd say Spring is finally here.

To prove it, here's a few pics I took while out walking around the neighborhood with Grover this morning. Aren't the blooms just gorgeous?! (this first one is my favorite and what got me started with the snapshots on the rest of the walk)

Okay so I cheated with these last three, they're from our backyard, but still! this is what Grover and I have been admiring every day this week! :)

When I'm not on conference calls or answering emails or training Grover or running errands or out on walks enjoying the gorgeous weather, I'm also knocking off items from the "GET READY FOR THE BABY" list, slowly but surely.

Today's action item? Pull out the baby clothes and organize them in the dresser. I had forgotten how TINY infant clothes are!! I seriously mistook a couple pairs of jeans, for SHORTS. Whoops. :)

Text 4 Baby

A couple of months ago, I signed up for these regular baby reminders (from Text4Baby) via text to my phone. They aren't particularly mind blowing or helpful to me, since I've gone through this before, but I can see how it would be a neat service to have the first time around. And regardless, they are still fun little reminders that get sprinkled into your day throughout the week.

A few minutes ago, I received today's text:

Delivering early is only wise if your doctor says you need to. Waiting until at least 39 weeks gives your baby more time to develop & gain weight.

I chuckled when I read that last part.

Logan was two weeks early and though he entered the world butt first, he was a healthy 8lbs, 6oz. Can you imagine how big he might have been, had he waited another two weeks? I guess you could say I'm not too worried about baby #2's development or weight gain. I was so glad Logan came when he did and am totally comfortable with the idea that this little guy could arrive a couple of weeks early as well.

Particularly on days like today, when he won't stop kicking my torn linea alba or dancing on my bladder.

Tuckered out

Grover pretty much stays put at my feet all day long. Here he's sleeping off a really tough walk earlier today, since I've started on some training exercises while we're out. ;-) He's actually catching on quickly!

He's also warmed up to our house, our other animals and our family which is nice. Every once in awhile, he leaves his comfy spot to chase the cats or a ball. After ~3 minutes he returns to his nap again. It's a rough life.

For Elizabeth

I think it's safe to say Elizabeth qualifies as my longest-standing friend (I can't say oldest, since I'm older than her - mwahahaha!). Her family and my family grew up on the same street, we met when we were 5 yrs old and walking to our first day of kindergarten, and she and I still keep in touch today.

Anyhoo, this is for Elizabeth, since she commented on my last post that she's happy she's not itching to get a new puppy or have a child of her own.

An excerpt taken from an interview with Moby (thanks Dad!):

SO GET A DOG
I travel too much. And I’m content to deal with the good side of other people’s dogs and the good side of other people’s children. Then I don’t have to pick up poo. I like children when they are rested and happy. When 8 o’clock rolls around, and they are crying and need to be fed and they’re throwing knives at each other, I’m happy to be childless.

I think it's safe to say parents like children when they are rested and happy too. ;-)
