Spoke too soon

Callum has decided today he will scream and screech as loud as he possibly can. He doesn't want to be held. He doesn't want to lay in his bed. He doesn't want to sit. He doesn't want to eat. He doesn't want to drink.

He wants to lie on the floor and scream, letting the entire neighborhood know how miserable he really feels.

Unfortunately, his fever spiked again last night (roughly 104-105 again!).  :(  He was in pretty bad shape and finally passed out on my chest while I rotated cool wet cloths on his back again, too tired to put up much of a fight. He woke up this morning with a 104 temp (again!). I waited a bit, giving him juice and for the Tylenol to kick in, but no luck. So, much to his dismay, back to the cold bath we went. Which he again, hated me for.

He napped a bit right after brunch (my dad came over and we all walked to a nearby cafe to get out for a bit) but woke up madder 'n hell and stayed that way until I put him back down for another nap.

I'm pretty worn out and am wishing really hard that this is the last of it. Of course, by then, Logan will be sick. Isn't it how it goes? ;-)

Sicky

Poor Callum. Not sure if he has the bug I was fighting earlier this week/weekend, but he's feeling pretty bad this evening (I took this pic this morning when he wasn't showing any signs of fever and vomiting that he's got now). What's worse, he can't return to school tomorrow because of the fever, Jon is out of town and I've got a very important all day meeting tomorrow that I can't miss. :(

So, we're doing the best we can. Jon's taking an earlier flight home (he'll get home a little after 11am) and then I'll go into work late, once he gets home to take over. Thank goodness we both have flexible and understanding employers!

Loganism of the day

Mommy, I'll take care of you when you're sick.

But don't throw up on my bed or my covers.

And don't throw up in the toilet, that's gross.

You can throw up in the bathtub though.

Home sweet home

Left the very festively decorated (but rainy) Bellevue late this evening. Unfortunately Jon, Logan and Callum are all sick. Guess it's back to being Mommy again! :)

Peas and other things

I left work early and unexpectedly today - poor little Callum seems to have caught a head cold, but the school was worried because after waking up from his nap, his eyes were super swollen and goopy. :( I wasn't completely surprised since I noticed his eyes were a little red around the edges and tired looking last night, he had a really difficult time sleeping through the night, and he was really congested and clearly having sinus issues this morning.

So, I took him to the doctors and the good news is, it's nothing serious but totally treatable. We got some antibiotic drops for his eyes which I started tonight so that his eyes will (hopefully) start improving immediately. His congestion is all in his head, not in his chest, which is good and means he's got a simple head cold that should go away very soon.

I'm not sure why, given how crappy Callum's feeling, but I decided to try out another new food tonight - peas - which he seemed to be okay with. Not thrilled, but I think that has more to do with him not feeling well and not having much of an appetite than anything. We'll see in a few days once he's back to his old self, if he continues to eat the peas or not.

Amidst the extra coddling of a crying weepy sick baby, Logan was being particularly snotty to me tonight and I had very little patience with him throughout the entire evening. However, there was one little part of the evening that made me laugh. We had just got home and I was trying to calm Mr. Callum down so I asked Logan to let Grover out of his crate (which he often helps me out with when we get home each night).

Logan wasn't interested and said "No."

That, of course, pissed me off. I told him again, with a much firmer tone and stink eye to go with it - Let. Grover. Out.

Logan replied, "No Mom, I'm too busy!"

I wasn't expecting this response and lost it, unable to keep a straight face after that. ;-)

TGI(F)F

The last two weeks have been a blur, on top of the previous two weeks (in Hawaii) which were also a blur.

I have so many pics to upload I don't know where to begin. And each day I'm just creating a bigger and bigger hole to dig myself out of.

I've been super sick since the weekend - took Monday off to literally sleep ALL. DAY. LONG. which seemed to help but unfortunately not quite enough. Still recovering.

Had Callum's checkup and interviews all day Tuesday and then my work offsite Wednesday and Thursday.

Last night was a rude awakening and welcome home - as both Callum and Logan woke up several times throughout the night, staggering their wake up calls, so that Jon and I were only ever able to sleep about an hour tops at each shift. No one ever mentions that little gem about parenting two kids. It was brutal.

I decided to work from home today so I could rest. Haven't yet done that, but thinking I may go lie down now before it's time to pick up the kids from school and tackle the 6-8pm Chaotic Evening with a Skosh of Uncontrollable Delirium.

Thankfully, Jon's work schedule has lightened up so he's done (for now) with the late nights.

I'm really looking forward to some downtime with Jon tonight as well as a quiet weekend! :)

A few things to share

I need to post this quickly because it's ridiculously late and Callum will be waking up soon.

1) HAPPY BIRTHDAY JONATHAN!

Today is my honey's birthday. He turns 12. Or 13. Or something like that. He's a young kid so I can never remember.

We, unfortunately, didn't get to do anything for his birthday today. The week - due to me returning back to work and Callum being sick and Jon having to work late every night (including tonight) - was too frenetic and crazy for us to even think about it. Perhaps next weekend. Or something.

2) HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNCLE KAI!

Today is also Uncle Kai's birthday. I think he turns like -5 or something like that. Damn kids these days.

3) 33 months old!

Today Logan turns 33 months old. Which is like -85 years old in relation to the above two numbers. Or something like that. I plan to write a dedicated post later for Mr. Logan but let's just say the theme of the post is going to go something like "My little one has turned into a defiant little punk who's primary vocabulary now consists of screaming NO to my face".

4) Callum had a follow up appointment with the doctor about his bronchitis and things are looking great! The doc says his lungs are 75-80% better (how do they come up with these numbers? seriously.). He can still hear a bit of congestion and wheezing but it's not nearly as bad and he thinks after we finish up the doses on both meds through the weekend, we'll be good to go. We actually have his 4 month shots and check up scheduled Tuesday morning - which will be a perfect time to do a final check on his lungs to make sure everything really has cleared out.

His daycare has definitely noticed a difference these last two days as well. He's had MUCH better days at school - crying less, eating and sleeping more - slowly getting back to his old self. We still battle a bit in the middle of the night - I think he's most miserable after just waking up when his congestion is probably the worst after sleeping on his face all night. But, again, it's slowly been getting better with each day so I'm hopeful we've turned the corner.

5) What else. First week back to work is behind me. YAY. It took me 2.5 days to get back onto our corporate network and connected to the tools I use day to day. Apparently if your account isn't in use for 30-45 days, they shut you down. Which makes TOTAL sense for all the hundreds of people in this massive company who are taking leave every day. Right? Right. I'm slowly going through my thousands of emails and filing them away never to be seen again. And I've applied for a new job which I'm now interviewing for because this week just couldn't get any busier.

6) Jon and I are off to San Diego tomorrow for a quick 24 hour trip to celebrate Eric's 5th birthday. Or something like that.

They're chartering a boat complete with open bar, beautiful dinner and sinfully delicious birthday cake for dessert. But none of that is as cool as the fact that it's an adults-only evening. Which means, for the FIRST TIME EVAH, we'll be leaving town without our kiddos, who will be spending the night with my parents. Wish them luck. I'm nervous for them.

But, not nervous enough to not look forward to a full night's sleep. ;-)

Back on I-5 heading home

I asked Jon to grab a travel pack of tissue for Logan's runny nose. This big ol' thing was the only size they had. *sigh*

Callum continues to scream the minute we load him into his car seat until he passes out from exhaustion. It's grating but what can we do?

Once Callum fell asleep (earlier this morning) Logan actually said to Jon and I:

Shhhhh!! Stop talking! The baby is sleeping!

I guess the screaming gets on Logan's nerves too. ;-)

Loganism of the day

Mommy, I'm gonna get some coffee for you.

No, I don't need any coffee.

Yes, you do need some coffee!

(Little does he know how true that statement really is...)

The good news is, he seems to have recovered from the stomach bug he had earlier today. And, amazingly enough, I cranked through and finished Callum's room too! I'll post pics later - going to bed now.

Derailed

The tabs at the top of my browser should give you an idea of my daily routine in front of the computer. It should also tell you how my day is going today.

Gmail - Inbox (1) :: Other Mail - Inbox :: Google Reader (1000+) :: Facebook :: AT&T :: Pies - The Pioneer Woman Cooks :: Diastasis facts :: Exercise After Pregnancy :: Amazon.com Online Shopping :: Vomiting

I read my mail, I read (too many) blogs, I read Facebook. I (need to) pay my phone bill. I (wistfully) read endless recipes, deciding what to try next (clue: pies!). I read about diastasis recti and look for inspiring postpartum exercises. Often times, I buy a thing or two from my favorite online store. ;-)

And then, when all else fails, I use the Internet to do research.

At first, I thought today was going to be GREAT! Callum had another wonderful night of sleep - a full 9.5 hours straight. Granted, my blouse was soaked since I hadn't pumped or nursed for so long, and I had to get up at 5:30am, but I was still happy.

I've been hoping - nay PRAYING - that he'd start sleeping for longer stints at a time. We are nearing the end of my maternity leave, after all, and there's only so much (productive) work I can get done with a few hours of sleep.

Logan woke up about 6:30am - which is a tad early for him, but not out of the ordinary. What was out of the ordinary, however, was that he had gotten up in the middle of the night and with no whimpering or crying at all, climbed into our bed and fell asleep. We weren't sure why but chalked it up to a bad dream or something.

I got him his usual morning bottle of milk, set him up with Bob the Builder in the den and climbed back into bed with Jon and Callum to see if I could pat Callum back to sleep (since he DID get up early). About 7am we hear Logan crying - Jon was getting up and about to jump in the shower, so he yelled to the front of the house, asking what was wrong. Logan says "I made a mess!" I thought maybe he just spilled some milk.

Oh how wrong I was.

Unfortunately he had puked up what milk he had drank.

Jon stormed around the house cleaning it up and telling me that this was it with milk in a bottle. The milk nazi had returned. *sigh*

He stripped Logan down and the two of them took a quick shower.

I had just gotten Callum to sleep and was drifting off myself when I heard Jon cussing up a storm. While dressing Logan, he puked again. :( It seemed there was something more going on than just an extra gulp of milk not staying down. He was pretty upset by the whole thing as he sat, heaving over the side of the bathtub.

I've lost count of how many Aisle 5 Clean Ups and Loads of Laundry I've done so far today. I fear it's not over yet. Based on my research (see above), we're to keep Logan as hydrated as possible, but only feed him a couple of teaspoons of clear liquid every 15 minutes, slowly building up to larger amounts as he holds it down. If he vomits again, we need to start over (and with a smaller amount).

I have yet been able to get past a few tablespoons.

YAY.

So much for getting Callum's room done and knocking those pesky to-do items off my list!

The dog ate my homework!

Or in this case, my 2 year old son just shredded my insurance check.

Logan's home sick today. We noticed a minor cough and runny nose over the weekend but he started running a mild temperature last night that hit into full fever mode this morning. He was in a fairly good mood when he woke up, although as his fever has risen (between 103-104) he's become a lot more clingy and out of sorts unfortunately.

In any case, he was out playing in the living room when the mailman stopped by this morning. Logan picked up the mail from the floor (we have a slot through our front door) and handed it to me. Then he proceeded to walk back down the hallway. I thought he was back on his way to our room to finish watching his movie, when all of a sudden I hear our shredder's motor running. He had taken one of the pieces of mail with him, which I totally didn't see.

SHIT!

NO NO NO NO STOP LOGAN STOP!!

I caught him watching the last of an envelope being eaten by the shredder. Luckily, I stopped it before it shredded completely and was able to "salvage" a few bits and pieces. I spent the next hour sifting through to find any important information that could help me when calling the insurance company and convincing them to reissue the check.

I was actually pretty surprised at what I was able to piece together - the check number, amount (most of it), check date, and check "audit" number (on the back). With that, the customer service rep I spoke to was able to hunt the check down, cancel it and issue us a new one.

PHEW.

(For those who are wondering, we normally keep our shredder locked so that Logan can't shred anything, since he actually does like to shred papers under our supervision. Unfortunately, we had forgotten to lock it since the last item was shredded. LESSON LEARNED.)

All clear: Load up the carbs!

I'm joking, really I am. I love me some carbs, but I also know I need to be careful since my body apparently can't process sugars as quickly as the "average" person.... I'll blame it on my genes and the diabetes that already runs in the family. ;-)

All that said, I had another checkup today - and first things first, I passed the glucose tolerance test from last week. Yay! Just like last time, I failed the first blood draw (the 1 hr test) but then passed all the others. I've gotta keep an eye on my sugar and carb intake, but it's something I need to keep an eye on after pregnancy as well - just good to know. I wasn't surprised at all, but relieved it didn't move into the DANGER DANGER gestational diabetes zone nonetheless. :)

The baby is doing great. Right on target size-wise, healthy heart beat, movement, etc. My iron is running low these days, so I've got to take some extra supplements throughout the day. Also not a surprise since I've always been slightly anemic and pregnant women tend to run shorter on iron anyway. But, we'll do another blood test in a couple of weeks just to keep an eye on things.

I (and Jon) had a REALLY rough night sleeping last night. This head cold is almost gone, but I have a nasty cough that persists, being the worst at night and waking me (and Jon) up every hour or two. It was awful. Thankfully, the doctor ok'd cough syrup to take at night to help me out (I wasn't sure, so I wasn't taking anything for it), so I immediately visited the drugstore right after the appt (after loading up on sugar and carbs of course). ;-)

Now off to my PT appt. I'm actually really enjoying the PT right now, since it's basically a weekly massage to loosen my back and joints up, but also keeps me stretching and exercising throughout the week, which my poor body (and mind) really really need!

And the verdict is in

Unfortunately, I didn't pass last week's glucose screening test. So, I've got to go back in later this week for another, longer, test. I wasn't really upset by the news - I was expecting it based on my pregnancy with Logan. Still, it's a bummer to have to deal with and it's going to knock out my entire morning to do. Oh well.

Logan, so far, seems much MUCH better today. His temp was down to 99 in the morning and back to normal (~98.2) this afternoon. I expect he'll go back to school again tomorrow. In the meantime, he's been getting into his fair share of trouble, now that he's got some of his energy back.

Earlier this afternoon he was stomping around playing with some of his toys and disappeared into the bathroom, closed the door and started playing in the tub. I could hear him talking and throwing the toys around (I was in the dining room, working on my laptop) - so after a few minutes of exchanges: "Whatcha doin' Logan?" "Logan's taking a bath!" I went in to see what exactly he was doing.

He had taken a shampoo bottle, opened and dumped it all over the place and was sliding around in it, in the tub. Amazingly, he didn't fall once.

Needless to say, we had to start a bath since he, and the bathtub, and the floor, and the walls, were covered in silky smooth Pantene slime. Luckily, it was pretty easy to clean up?

Oy.

Logan lined up his letters by color, all on his own. I did not tell him to do this - but clearly he's starting to take on some of his Mom's obsessive-compulsive qualities.
(This series is a bit blurry since I was rushing to capture the moment,
but you get the idea)

An ear infection

Logan had another really rough night last night. He woke up about midnight and then every 10-15 minutes (I'm not even exaggerating, I was timing it!) thereafter. About 1am or so, Jon brought him into bed with us, hoping he'd finally just calm down and fall asleep. We didn't know what was wrong other than him being sick. We both tried sleeping while our toddler kicked and squirmed and whined and rolled and whimpered between us. He was like the dog circling 7 times for just the right spot to lie down in, only he never found that right spot. It was miserable.

About 2am or so, I can't really remember, I asked if he wanted to try sleeping in his own bed and he said yes (or more like HELL YEAH LADY that's what I've been WAITING for, what TOOK YOU SO LONG). So, I brought him back to his bed and rubbed his back until he fell asleep. Went back to bed and the vicious 10-15 minute wake up calls continued.

MOMMY!! Mommy, back please (he wanted me to rub his back).

So at about 3 or maybe 3:30am? Who knows, I certainly lost count, we brought him back to bed with us again, not knowing what else to do. LUCKILY, this time he fell asleep and slept (I had him sorta propped up in the crook of my arm wrapped around him, so maybe that helped) until morning.

Once morning hit, we could tell he still wasn't himself. His fever had come back (102) and he was coughing up a storm. He cried anytime I left his side and at one point, while Jon laid him down on the bed to change his diaper, he started SCREAMING at us. We couldn't figure out what he was saying at first, and suddenly it dawned on me, he was yelling "Logan's falling! Logan's falling!" (even though he wasn't at risk of falling off the bed). Jon and I wondered if it was possible he had vertigo, since he's normally really well balanced. It dawned on me that he had said that a few times over the weekend too, which I had thought was strange for him but hadn't thought much more about it until then.

Luckily, his doctor's office called (I had left a semi-desperate voice mail last night to CALL ME THE MINUTE YOU GUYS OPEN TOMORROW PLEASE PLEASE OH PRETTY PLEASE) and said they could see us at 9:15am and could we make it? It was 8:45am, Logan and I were still in our pj's and I was all oh hell yeah, we'll be there.

As it turns out, Logan was pretty bad off. His temp rose to 103.9 when we got to the dr's office, and he was so miserable that he clung to me, arms and legs wrapped around my body, not even looking up or blinking as Dr. Safir checked his eyes, ears, mouth, chest, etc. Other than obviously appearing super sick (Dr. Safir immediately said, clearly he's feeling shitty - this isn't the Logan I'm used to seeing) he had a horrible ear infection that made Dr. Safir jump back a couple feet with surprise. He wasn't sure how Logan wasn't complaining about the pain since it looked pretty bad. :( Logan's complained of an "owie" but when we ask him where, he can't point it out.... so I guess now we know where (it also explains the vertigo and eye infection symptoms).

Dr. Safir was actually really concerned. Of the 50-60 patients he sees in a day (I can't believe he really sees that many), he said 2-3 will actually be this sick. He wanted to make sure we treated the ear infection pronto, as well as got his fever down to a manageable level. He also wanted to make sure I was getting plenty of fluids into Logan since he could get dehydrated pretty quickly.

So, we gave him a shot of antibiotics to get it into his system right away, along with a prescription that we'll start tomorrow. We're on a rigid Tylenol/Motrin rotation every 4 hours (apparently rotating between the two is better than using just one type when you've got a fever this high) with lots of fluids.

Logan was clearly exhausted after the appointment, poor guy. We got home and I propped him up in our bed with a choice of several movies. He actually got into a better mood after a few hours, and ate some Cheerios along with the "just two sips" of apple juice or Gatorade that I insisted he take every 20 minutes. He also had some Jello that I made to help get some liquid into him (suggestion from the nurse) - and loved that. ;-)

Nap time was actually the roughest part of the day, since he woke up a few times crying in my arms non-stop for about 15-20 minutes. It's the first time I've seen him rub at his ear, so I can only guess the pain is really bothering him. I wanted so much to help him get over the pain and sleep some more (he'd keep his eyes closed, still clearly very tired and wanting to sleep) but had no idea what to do. I called the doctor again and they said other than the antibiotics and Motrin which we've already given him, there's not much else to do.

And then the nurse said, almost as an after thought, oh and try to keep him propped up, since lying down will hurt more.

AHA! I finally realized why poor Loganito's been having trouble sleeping!

We're supposed to keep a close eye on him throughout the day and night, and if he's the same or any worse tomorrow, Dr. Safir wants to see him again. I'm hoping it won't come to that but we'll just have to wait it out and see.

Dexterity

Logan's doing much better but still a bit sickly. He had a really great morning today, we even got out and ran a couple errands which felt good to get out of the house, however after his nap this afternoon he was back to his clingy, fragile, upset self. :(

His fever is pretty much gone, although it did appear after his nap just a tiny bit (upper 99s), and the rash is also mostly gone (a few small spots also poked their ugly head out briefly after the nap), so we'll see. Unfortunately, he also has a weepy eye that's getting clogged up every time he cries (which feels like every 5 minutes), so I'll be calling the doc again tomorrow to see if we can get some drops for it since it's not clearing up on its own.

Because we've been cooped up in the house all weekend and Logan doesn't want to do anything but cuddle in bed and watch movies or sit on my lap, as close to me as humanly possible, I broke out some of the art supplies today so we could get a break from the TV.

I got about two 20 minute sessions out of him before he decided to quit and grab my hand to pull me back to cuddle in bed, but at least it was something. He absolutely fell in love with his new "froggy" scissors (I got the ladybug pair as well), learning how to cut paper on his own for the first time. Of course, he's not skilled enough to be left alone, but I was surprised at how quickly he picked up how to use them, one handed and all!

Nesting, Fasting and Mothering

Hooooooo boy, where to begin?

So I'll start by saying I've become obsessed - like Obsessed with a capital "O" - this week, lurking around Craigslist.

It suddenly dawned on me that there are a few baby items we actually might need when the baby arrives (like an infant car seat *cough* Jon! *cough*) and I got the wild and crazy idea of looking on Craiglist for a few of them. Lo and behold, I got SUCKED IN. And before you know it, I literally had appointments every.single.day this week, meeting with a different random person, to check out, and pay for, more stuff.

What did I end up buying?

- Tuesday was another booster chair
- Wednesday was another baby monitor (to use at my parent's house)
- Yesterday was a couple bags of toddler clothes (they'll be for Logan first before the baby)
- And today was the cutest little rainboots you ever did see (also for Logan first)

See?

Seeeee?? :)

I've only spent about $50 so far, for all the above, so not too shabby. I have a couple other small things I want to get for the baby but haven't been able to find the right size or color or deal yet. I'll keep searching. :)

I do wonder what this says about me as a parent the second time around. Since, for this guy, I'm all about buying on the cheap, cheap, cheap! ;-) I'm still pretty choosy about quality and brands, so I think it's more about saving where possible. We still need to buy an infant car seat (a job I've assigned to Jon), and though there are plenty to find on Craigslist, I'm going to guess we'll end up buying it in a store just because.

I guess nesting has finally begun?

Other than my maniac Craiglist shopping, I also had my glucose screening test this morning. Downing 50 g of syrup in 5 minutes is NOT my idea of a good time. And definitely makes you sick and queasy when taken on an empty stomach. :( But, at least I got that out of the way. We'll see what happens once we get the results next week.

After the test, I came back home to take care of Mr. Logan. Last night, at about 3am, Logan came stumbling into our room, up to my side of the bed, and then coughed a couple of times before starting to heave. I caught him before he got near the bed and sat with him trying to contain the vomit while Jon ran to get some towels, bowls and help clean up.

Poor Logan was pretty upset from throwing up - in the past he's always had just one quick and dirty projectile vomit - but this was more like what you'd see hovering over your dorm room toilet when your roommate had too much to drink after her sorority initiation and you thought you'd be nice and hold back her hair for the night. It was swell after swell of heaving, his body laboriously trying to get out whatever was bothering him. Luckily for us, the cleanup wasn't that bad, since he seemed to mostly be puking up water and clear liquid.

While Jon cleaned up the floor in our bedroom, I carried him into the bathroom and brushed his teeth. I figured not only was he not liking the heaving his stomach was doing, but he couldn't possibly like the taste in his mouth either. That seemed to make him feel better as he perked right up after that. We gave him a bit of cough medicine (he seemed to be running a bit of a fever in addition to the cough) and put him back to bed.

When he woke up in the morning, he was still a bit off. He was pretty hot - his temp was a bit over a 100, but he felt much warmer to me. Jon watched him while I did my blood test and then took off for work when I got back to take care of him.

My dad came over for a few hours to also help watch him since I had a client call I couldn't reschedule (and, since he was over at about the same time, I snuck off to snag the rainboots afterward!). Though continuing to run a fever, Logan was actually in pretty good spirits all morning. He even took another bike ride out with my dad around the block.

However, when I got back from my errand (and to grab lunch), I noticed a rash developing on his face, arms and belly. My dad mentioned he had just started scratching and itching pretty regularly. He was also steaming up. :( And, unfortunately, started going downhill from there.

I monitored him pretty closely the rest of the afternoon and talked to his doctor. They weren't too concerned about the rash - due to the other symptoms (mainly fever) just before it - they said it was likely a "viral rash". Essentially, whatever bug he caught, was deciding to make itself known to the outside world as well. They gave me instructions for Tylenol and Benedryl - neither of which I had in the house at the time (we ran out of Children's Tylenol earlier in the day). And unfortunately, once Logan woke up from his nap, he was NOT in a state to be taken out (very sensitive, delicate and extremely clingy - crying for me incessantly all afternoon long).

I normally don't mind his sicky-clingy behavior when he's sick, but all he wanted today was to sit and/or lay in my lap - of which I no longer really have! So it got to be really uncomfortable and frustrating as he would literally try to PUSH my belly to one side and move it out of the way for a better spot to lie.

*sigh*

Luckily, by the time Jon got home, his rash was already improving significantly. He was itching much less and the little hot spots were disappearing to the point that Jon really didn't see much of it at all. He was still running a decent fever (it had crept up to 102) but seemed to be in better spirits at least. We got some more Tylenol and Benedryl in him and relaxed on the couches with him until it was time for bed.

I'm really hoping whatever bug he caught has run its course and he'll be on the mend tomorrow. Otherwise, we have a long night, and weekend, ahead of us! :(

A few old pics

I finally had some free time tonight to post up a few old pics! The first set is from Jon's family reunion we went to a couple of weeks ago. I didn't get as many profile pics of family members that I had wanted to - I've noticed that now that I have a kid, I focus most of my photos around him. And those pics that I don't get, are usually due to me setting the camera down so I can chase after my son before he gets into some serious trouble. :) Click on the pics below for more.

The second set is from our quick visit to the Children's Discovery Museum last weekend with Jon. I just added the pics to the same page of previous CDM pics, so you'll have to scroll toward the end to see the most recent. I didn't take as many because our visit was so short, but I did catch a few with Jon that I wanted to save. :)

We have another busy weekend ahead, and a couple of busy weeks (both Jon and I will be traveling, at different times/places) after that! But I'm hoping now that most of us are over the nasty cold we caught last week (Jon is still recovering from it since he caught it last), I'll have more energy and time to post updates in a timely manner.

Finally Recovering

Logan's been down and out since the start of last week. We thought he was doing better on Wednesday morning since we didn't detect a fever, but just to be safe, he and I hung out together that morning before I took him into school mid-day, just before lunchtime. A few hours later (after nap time), I got a call from his school that his fever had spiked to 101. Funny thing is, he didn't feel unusually warm to me when I picked him up (I can usually tell when he's running a temperature since he's emanating heat!) and when I took his temp after we got home, it was at about 98-99. Nothing extreme. Still, he had started a cough and seemed more clingy than usual, so I gave him some meds and a little TLC the rest of the day.

Thursday was a light day for me at work so I stayed home with Logan for the day (school rules say a child can't return until 24 hrs after a fever breaks). We went to my parent's for lunch and although he was still a bit clingier than usual, he was in great spirits for most of the day. Though his cough was pretty bad, I still wasn't detecting much of a fever which was good. So I thought we'd probably take him back into school on Friday, especially since it was picture day and I wanted to make sure and get some new pics for the family album.

Unfortunately, Logan had different plans. His cough kept him up all night - Jon finally brought him into bed with us about 2am (later I asked him why and he thought it was 6am and almost time for us to get up anyway).... which meant a REALLY rough night for Jon and I. Logan slept better between us I think - but he continued to cough up a storm, scattered with a few punches, kicks and bolting to an upright sitting position every now and then, in the middle of his sleep. It was distracting and nerve racking for Jon and I, to say the least. And, sometime around 4am I noticed a tickle growing in my own throat as well. Yay.

So, Friday I stayed home with him again since he clearly wasn't better, and I was starting to come down with the bug myself. I got an early morning appointment with his doctor just to make sure he didn't have anything more serious than a cold, and luckily that was all that was diagnosed. Lungs were clear, no bronchitis or pneumonia detected. And nothing like swine flu to worry about. Phew! ;-)

I did have one meeting on Friday that I absolutely could not cancel or reschedule - so my dad came over to the house for an hour to distract and entertain Logan out in the front yard while I took my call. THANK YOU DAD. After that, Logan and I lazed around the house all day long sipping juice and eating fruit and watching tv and being bums.

We've been taking it easy for the rest of the weekend because of the colds. Logan and I did make it out Saturday morning to a special ribbon cutting ceremony and building dedication of the brand new El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, which opens on November 15th (I was invited to attend since I sit on the Community Advisory Board for the Women's Hospital). I didn't think about it at the time, but it was a full hour of several folks speaking about how great the team was and the community was and the staff was at creating this new building, blah blah blah, before the actual ribbon cutting event. All very boring for an antsy hyper 2-year old toddler. :(

There's a cool circular water fountain in the front of the hospital where the ceremony was taking place - which we played in for about 10 minutes before security told us to cut it out. ;-) Soooo, we ended up spending most of the ceremony walking around some paths nearby looking at ants and slugs and picking up acorns and leaves and flowers. Logan was a champ and actually did really well putting up with Mama's boring community/hospital work that morning. :) After the ceremony, the hospital was opened for attendees to do self-guided tours - so Logan and I traipsed around the brand new hospital poking our noses into every nook and cranny. The building is well laid out, beautifully designed and you can tell someone put a lot of thought and effort into it. It was also really eery to walk down hallways and around the E.R. (for example) with not a patient or doctor in sight. :)

Today, Jon joined Logan and I for a quick hour of fun at the Children's Discovery Museum. The weather has been turning colder and colder (Hello Fall!), and although Logan was feeling much better, none of us were in the mood to go out to a park or take a walk, even though we all needed to get out of the house for a bit. So, the Discovery Museum it was. We had a nice time but Logan got tired pretty quickly (he woke up at 6am, the bastard) so we headed home. Really really loving the 'in and out' membership benefits! :)

I'm still not 100% myself, but not that bad either. I think it'll just take me longer to get over the cold because of the interrupted sleep and early morning wake up calls that Logan has been giving us lately. Logan, however, seems to be much better now and coughing less and less - thank goodness! I still have several pics to upload from last weekend's family reunion and our play time at the museum today - I'm hoping to get to that this week once I start feeling back to my old self!

Sicky

It's been awhile since any of us have been hit by a bug so I guess we were due. Nothing terrible, but it does seem like Logan's down with a little something. He had a really hard time sleeping last night - waking up every hour or two (lucky us!). So, Jon stayed home with him today just in case it got worse. Luckily, he's been in pretty good spirits all day. He's been a little more clingy than usual and running a slight temperature (by touch, whenever we take his temp however, it's nothing unusually high). But other than that, he's been his usual active happy self.

So, he's either sick or perhaps, it's just the change in weather? (thank GOD for cooler weather! I'm actually glad to see the fall has finally come) ;-)

Out Sick

I've been home sick the last couple of days, just battling a common
head cold that stole my voice. But since I've got a bit more "free"
time, I've also been taking care of a couple errands in between the
downtime.

Get my son a much needed haircut? Check!
