Weigh In

Yesterday morning was our weigh in for little Callum. The good news is, his weight is up from last Friday. The bad news is, the needle didn't move much, as he weighed in at 6lbs, 14.5oz (we were hoping he'd get up around 7lbs, 2oz or so).

What's more, Monday night his appetite finally seemed to kick in (which is a good thing), and he literally devoured every last drop of breastmilk I had pumped and been storing (which is a frustrating thing). Just when I thought I was getting a bit of an edge on him to build up some sort of supply, he catches up to me!

*sigh*

Dr. Safir wants us to now try supplementing, with either breastmilk or formula, after every feeding instead of just 2-3 per day and see how that'll do. We go back in on Friday for another weight check. We're still giving him all the breastmilk I'm pumping first, but have already had to give him an additional couple of ounces of formula yesterday and this morning since we've got nothing else to give the hungry monster!

The good news is, the pharmacy (finally!) had my meds ready. The prescription is a "compound" prescription, which basically means it's not sold by manufacturers but custom made.... so it took longer to fill than usual. However, I've now started on that and hopefully will see a difference in my supply here in the next few days. We'll see!

After Callum's doctor appointment, we dropped Logan off at school and then went out to see Date Night, a movie that everyone has raved about. Callum was a great kiddo and slept the entire time, so Jon and I had a couple hours of "downtime" to just enjoy being with each other and getting out of the house. The movie was hilarious and we had a lot of fun! We're hoping to catch another flick or two again this week before Jon returns to work (part time) next week. :)

Paternity Leave at its Finest

This was actually taken yesterday when I got home from work, but I forgot to post it.... funny how HAPPY Logan looks and how tired and dazed Daddy looks.

It was the best shot of Daddy I could get -- he's never been one to be photogenic.

2 Weeks Left :(

Today marks my maternity leave two week countdown - I'm trying not to think about it too much since it's so depressing! :( I have really settled into home life with Logan quite nicely and can't imagine what it's going to be like not seeing him all day long. *sigh* The good news is, Jon will get to spend some quality Father/Son time with Logan before he starts childcare (the child care center we finally decided to go with didn't have a spot open until mid-May, so Jon is using a couple weeks of paternity leave to bridge the gap). I'm hoping it'll be less traumatic for me and Logan too, since he'll still be with someone he knows for a couple more weeks, and I won't be *as* stressed at work from leaving him at a child care center for the first time. :)

Logan seems to have returned to wake up calls at night this past week. We thought it might have something to do with getting his brace off since he's a lot more mobile and fidgety without it on. But, I also wonder if he might be going through another growth spurt? He's eating like crazy again -- he's up every couple of hours and is super fussy and hungry. Two nights ago he polished off about 25 oz in a 12 hr period. Yikes!! I want to wait as long as possible before we move to solids, esp. given his digestive issues, but if he keeps this eating frenzy up, we may need to start sooner than I had wanted (one of the signs that it's time to start solids, so I've read, is when they start eating a lot more, never seeming to be satiated, and stop sleeping well thru the night). We'll see.

The weather finally cooled off today with a nice breeze so I spent some time sitting out reading on our backyard patio for the first time while Logan napped. A recent development of his is touching, playing with and sticking out his tongue. I stick mine out back at him and he smiles, but I'm not sure he gets the connection just yet. :)

Alicia and Sarah stopped by for the afternoon to visit with Logan one last time before their flight home this evening -- he is definitely a charmer with all the ladies, and his Abuelita and Tia are no exception! ;-)

Giggles

We just got back from Tahoe last night - had a great time. Jon got a day of snowboarding in with Nathan while Kim and I just hung out at the cabin with the babies and dogs. Jon returns to work tomorrow (he only used one week of leave this time) -- it's amazing how quick you can get used to someone being back at home with you. Logan and I are really going to miss him!

I had mentioned Logan has taken more notice of his hands, inspecting them for brief periods of time. Yesterday morning I had set him in Molly's car seat while I made breakfast and placed her toy on his lap to see if he'd play with it. In the past he's never really been interested, but this time not only was he staring at the little black and white patterns, he actually grabbed for one of the rings to pull it towards him! Here's a shot of him holding onto the toy. :)

This morning I had a sore throat and wasn't feeling too hot so I asked Jon to take care of Logan while I rested. When I woke up a couple hrs later, Jon brought Logan into the bedroom and played with him while I got dressed. While playing, Jon got Logan to giggle for the first time! It was so much fun to watch him giggle every time Jon went for his belly (he was repeatedly giggling in response to Jon's playing). I would have got a video of it except the furniture guys called to deliver our dining table (yay!) so we had to stop playing and clear out the dining room to make way for the new furniture. Next time I guess! :) Instead, I've posted some pics of Logan practicing his sitting with Daddy up in Tahoe (click on the pic).

Lookout world, here we come!

Today was the first day of Jon's paternity leave for a week. We thought we'd get away and get back up to Tahoe to enjoy some of the aftermath from the recent storms. But, we also have been putting off a number of errands - so we used today to get some stuff done and will head on up to the mountains tomorrow.

One of the errands was applying for Logan's passport since it takes awhile and we're considering a family vacation over the summer. Since both parents need to go together in person (not required, but a whole lot easier), it made sense to do it today. Of course, it felt like an all-day ordeal. There was a long wait at the passport office - and their photo machine was broken - so we took a number and walked down to the local Walgreens to get Logan's picture taken in the meantime. Everyone else did the same, so there was a bit of a wait at Walgreens too. Logan behaved wonderfully for the camera even though the guy didn't get a very good shot. I know we could have taken much better pics ourselves, but I didn't think of it ahead of time. So, his passport photos are a little funny looking. Ah well.

Back at the passport office, we sat filling out the app and of course I forgot to bring Logan's social security card/number. Luckily, the office is literally around the corner from our house. Jon was able to get back to the house, find the card, and get back to the passport office in the time it took the gal behind the counter to take care of *one* application. Nice. ;-) At any rate, we finally got everything submitted, paid the exorbitant fees and got outta there after a couple of hours. I can't wait to see Logan's passport with a height of 1'11" on it. heheehehehehe Pretty silly that they require babies to have passports now.

Logan was really well behaved for most of the day today which was really great. His eczema seems to be doing MUCH better. Each day I'm seeing an improvement from the day before which is a huge relief. This morning, the rash on his back is all but gone! I've been lathering him with lotion more frequently (about every 2 hrs) since our dr's visit on Monday, and of course we've given him a couple treatments of the steroid cream. Whatever it is, it seems to be working!! :)

We also visited a couple stores to check out living room furniture and I think we have finally made a decision. Now we just gotta plunk down the moolah and wait a couple months before it arrives. *groan* I will be soooo happy to have some real couches soon so we can finally entertain! :)
