Loganism of the day

Whispering to me, on the drive home today:

Daddy has a surprise for you!  It's a necklace.

Oh really? What color?

Blue.

(Daddy should know his boy can't be trusted with a secret. Hehe.)

Year of the Tiger

Happy Chinese New Year!

Today begins the year of the Tiger and I couldn't be more excited to meet our own little tiger soon! Logan was born at 38 weeks; I'm now at 28 weeks.

Possibly 10 weeks and this little guy is already here?!? Insane!

As our usual Sunday tradition dictates, Jon picked up some delicious donuts and we all stuffed ourselves full of sugar and dough in the morning. Jon and Logan then hung out together while I took a nap (trying to get over the head cold that I've caught as a result of Logan's own sickness I think).

Every week, Logan's school sponsors a "Parent's Night Out", rotating between Friday and Saturday nights to watch the kids for a few extra hours while we parents can enjoy a date night alone. This evening, as it was Valentine's Day (and because Logan's usual babysitters, my parents, are out of town visiting my grandparents), we decided to try the Parent's Night Out for the first time. :) Poor Logan was NOT a happy camper when we dropped him off (I don't think it helped that he had just woken up from his nap about 45 minutes prior and was still a bit groggy) but thankfully, the teachers said he was fine after we left.

Jon and I didn't do anything spectacular - we caught a movie (The Wolfman - great cast but the movie was disappointing) and had a delicious dinner at a Vietnamese Pho house (special to us since our first date was at a Pho house). It was a nice treat to get out on our own but we also missed our Loganito. We ended up picking him up an hour earlier than planned. :)

Logan made us a cute little Valentine card from school - where he promptly ate part of the candy cane "heart" that was stuck to it before I could even look at the card. Oh well.

Logan also showered Lola (and her crate) with his favorite Legos and cars this weekend.

I bought iPhone covers for both Jon and I - can you tell which phone belongs to whom?

When we got home tonight, we had a lovely surprise waiting for us. One of the cats (I'm going to blame Iz) decided to bring us a dead mouse, to put on display in the middle of the living room.

Apparently he loves us that much (I'll spare you a pic).

Being Valentine's, I suppose it's the season of love (and gifts). And don't get me wrong, I love and adore all my boys.

But, I'm certain I could have done without the last gift and still had a wonderful day. ;-)

A Lovey Weekend

Hope everyone had a wonderfully lovey Valentine's weekend! (Jonathan sent me some beautiful roses on Friday to make all the other girls in the office who didn't receive flowers jealous) hee hee

Jon and I celebrated our Valentine's a day early and went out Friday night to dinner and a movie (Coraline - pretty good!). My parents babysat Loganito for the evening and THIS time, he did great, sleeping through the night thank goodness. I'm sure it had something to do with my dad chasing him around the house all night long to tire him out! ;-)

Saturday we took care of a few chores, and I went to a neighbor's "Valentine's Tea Party" while Jon went out to a late lunch with my parents and Logan. That evening, the Jodoins came over to visit - we had a nice dinner and then hung out at our house while the two boys played until bedtime. They had a GREAT time, particularly sitting in Logan's wagon together or pushing each other (mostly Robert pushing Logan) around the house. Before we knew it, Jenn and I had chatted away the night while our two husbands had fallen fast asleep on the couches! :)

Today we visited Odin's breeder at a local dog show to say hi, have her meet Logan for the first time (and see the doggies of course) and check out the new pups she's showing these days. Other than getting totally drenched to and from the show, it was actually a pretty nice outing for all of us - since it got us out of the house, but the show was all indoors so we didn't have to worry about the pouring rain too much. Logan loved running around the rings, checking out all the fascinating different dogs nearby (whereas I was a little more focused on making sure he didn't try and lunge after a huge dog who wasn't used to kids). No more than 5 minutes in the car on our way home, and he was fast asleep, napping for another 2.5 hrs before waking up again!

I've included a few snapshots from the weekend to enjoy. I couldn't really capture it on camera, but Logan has just recently figured out how to walk backwards and was really struttin' his stuff all weekend long, showing off his mad skills to anyone who'd watch.

In addition to the moon walking, he's also taken to throwing EVERYTHING (often times at you, which is really annoying) these days. The only way I have patience to deal, quite honestly, is to look forward to the day we can put that energy to some use - like, plopping him on a pitcher's mound, or teaching him to serve an ace, or cheering him on as he quarterbacks a game-winning play.

Digging for gold

I suppose I should be proud that when I asked Logan to touch his nose, he actually understood me and did it. But picking his nose? Where exactly do you draw the line? ;-)

Today Logan received his first valentine from a classmate, and suddenly it dawned on me that I now need to start sending him to school with cards for the teachers and other kids too. Whoops!
Totally missed the boat on that one.

In other weekly news, yet ANOTHER tooth has broken through (bottom front lateral incisor)!! Hot damn!

Had to deal with a terrible crisis mid-morning yesterday where he literally was screaming in pain for about an hour. It was awful. At first the teachers thought he was constipated, but I think finally he may have just had some really bad gas, since he never actually pooped but his super hard stomach finally turned back to the normal soft baby belly after cuddling in my lap for 30 minutes. :( All I thought was, this is parenting crisis number 8 of ...how many? ;-)

Navigating through traffic and pouring rain as I type, so that's it for my weekly update. (Logan did find my umbrella quite interesting I might add).

Happy Friday the 13th!

Photo Album

Several family and friends beat me up on a regular basis because I don't have enough pictures of Logan posted. Part of the issue has been that we started his photo album on Jon's work laptop at the hospital and then never converted the files over to my computer once we got settled in at home.

I'm happy to report we've finally got it all moved over, so that I can start updating the album more frequently without bugging the hubby. :) I decided to change the look and feel of the album as well, and have added several new pages:
Enjoy!

Our Funny Valentine

My funny valentine
Sweet comic valentine
You make me smile with my heart
Your looks are laughable
Unphotographable
Yet you're my favorite work of art...

Will you be mine?

It goes without saying that Jon and I share one very special and cute little Valentine this year! :) We wish all of you a beautiful year full of love and happiness.

This week has been busy with child care tours for us. We've already seen two and will be seeing two more tomorrow. We're on the fence about whether we should choose a location near our work or near home -- it seems like both options have their pros and cons. Right now all the tours are near our home until we decide whether to expand out near work (Mountain View) or not.

The first place we visited was really nice -- organized, spic and span clean, lots of great programs for learning -- they even have both Spanish and Mandarin classes available (for toddlers) that would be perfect for us. But our first tour was also a shock to me. The reality of my maternity leave being almost half over (yes, already! I return end of April) hit me as I stood in the infant room, watching 3 women caring for 12 screaming little babies. I also realized how much I am going to struggle with dropping our little Valentine off every day to a stark, cold, institutional facility - nothing like home - and though very good at what they do I am sure, he still will not get the same amount of love and attention that he gets now (how can he, when these poor women are caring for 4 babies to their 1??). Returning back to work is not going to be easy.

I liked the second place a lot more than the first -- it had a much more mellow atmosphere -- less rigid and institutional which felt more comfortable and appealing to me. Jon liked the structure and curriculum that the first center offered more. So, we'll see. We haven't made any decisions yet since we still have a few more to visit.... of course a lot will depend on which centers actually have spots available for the timeframe we need! :)

As I write this post, Logan does a number on my shirt, spitting up all down the front. I suppose there are a FEW things I won't miss when I return back to work! ;-)
