Loganism of the day

While watching the opening sequence of Despicable Me, Logan points out "Mom! He's [the little boy running up the pyramid] not listening!  Just like when I don't listen to you!"

Ahhh, so very very true.

Playdate

We had the Hicksons and Jodoins over to hang out, eat dinner and play time. Here the older kids are settling down, watching Toy Story, before bedtime. :)

Diaper Day Movie

I caught another (and probably my last) "Diaper Day" movie (The Kids Are All Right - great flick!) today. As always, I love the fact that my neighborhood theatre offers movies to moms and dads with babies. It's a great idea to help parents get out of the house with the kids.

That said, today's movie was harder to hear/watch than I've experienced in the past. I'm not sure if it just happened to be a group of louder crying than usual, or the smaller theatre space we were in, but MAN I found myself looking around a lot, wondering what the hell that noise was coming from! hehehe

I think I'm also lucky and blessed by an ultra cool mellow little dude. Here he is asleep on my chest amidst all the screaming next to him.

Turn it up to eleven

We've had a really nice weekend - full of activity but less busy, if you can believe it, than most of our weekends! :) Yesterday we got together with the Hicksons and Jodoins to see Toy Story 3. It was so much fun! And such a great (and emotional) ending to a wonderful series. I wonder if Jon and I enjoyed the movie just as much as Logan.... ;-)

Afterward, we got together at the Jodoins' house to let the kids get some extra energy out of their systems and catch up with each of the families. The Hicksons left just before bedtime but we decided to stay a bit longer so that the adults could play a match of Carcassonne (I won - mwahahahaha!) while the boys slept.

This morning, Jon decided he wanted to spend Father's Day hanging out with Logan for some special Daddy-Son time. They took off early for their favorite weekly donut run, hung out at a local game store and then went to catch another viewing of Toy Story 3 (Logan had been asking to see it again all morning). Unfortunately, Logan got scared during one of the scenes about half way through, so they left early to come home (strange since, he didn't seem to have any issues the first time around!).

We also got Daddy a few fun gifts; matching Volume 11 tees for Daddy, Logan and Callum, as well as a couple of books for Jon to begin studying and get ready for when the boys are a bit older - Geek Dad: Awesomely Geeky Projects and Activities for Dads and Kids to Share and Fifty Dangerous Things (You Should Let Your Children Do). After reading the Table of Contents of the latter, Jon commented he'd done most of those things, and should just rename the book "Fifty Things You Do Growing Up in a Small Town in Texas". Ha! ;-)

My gorgeous boys:

Hope everyone had a wonderful Father's Day!

"Buzz Iteyear"

I resisted buying this costume but did get a couple of other small Buzz Lightyear items for Logan today. Toy Story 3 better be hella good for all the marketing and hype that Disney's doing. ;-)

It feels like Christmas!

Thursday was Jon and my fourth anniversary. We had an easy going day, taking in another movie with Callum (Kick-Ass) which we both thoroughly enjoyed.

The traditional 4th year anniversary gifts are fruit or flowers - so I got Jon a delicious Edible Arrangement. Logan and I chowed down on the fruit Thursday night (interestingly, Logan preferred the plain strawberries to the chocolate-dipped ones, asking me to "take off" the chocolate from the dipped ones for him). :)

This pic isn't as good since it was night time and I only had my phone with me, but you can see how he enjoyed eating the strawberries off the "skewers"... :)

Jon was a kind man and got me a new Coach wallet, something I've been wanting for some time (because my current wallet is too small, black, and doesn't match my brown purse!). I didn't complain that it was neither fruit nor flowers - it's a perfect gift in my eyes.

We also received a gift from Jon's work. And when I say "we", I mean Jon, since it was a humongous box full of several pounds worth of Texas BBQ from Salt Lick. He was jumping for joy. I was all ewwwwww, go put that in the freezer and get it out of my kitchen, stat! ;-)

Callum also received a gift, from his Abuelita and Abuelito Riedy - a "Baby Bunch" bouquet! The presentation was awesome and the idea is so neat, something neither of us had seen before. The clothes are still too big for our tiny delicate Callum, but given the way he's now growing, he should be able to fill them out in no time. Thanks again Ita! :)

Logan was not to be forgotten. While Daddy and Callum were out getting me my new wallet, they stopped by the Disney store to pick up a couple pairs of pajamas for Logan too. So Thursday night he got to choose between the two pairs - his choice for the evening, Buzz "Iteyear" (he still can't pronounce his "Ls" well). :) He ran around the house calling out super hero names, with his arms flapping and flying, high on strawberry sugar juice.

Abuelita and Abuelito also got Logan a cool stuffed dinosaur to add to his growing collection of stuffed animals that join Logan on the bed each night. It arrived on Friday and he promptly took it with him to my parent's house (while Jon and I enjoyed a date night Friday night). So, I'll have to snag a pic of him with the big dinosaur another time. It is definitely a new favorite for him to carry around every morning, noon and night however!

And since we're talking about gifts, I would be remiss to mention the Welcome Home gift that graced our house when we returned from the hospital last week (good God, was it just last week?!?). When Logan was born, you might recall my parents decorated the entire house with beautiful bright red poinsettias. They were gorgeous and, at the time, I teased my parents that they were trying to kill off my cats, since "everyone knows" that poinsettias are poisonous. My mother did some research however, and proved that it's actually just a big myth. PHEW. Bullet dodged, said my cats.

This year, being Spring, my parents decided to decorate the entire house with beautiful wild Asian Lilies. And again, they were gorgeous and a wonderful surprise.

But, I couldn't ignore the fact that lilies are in fact, poisonous to cats. Sadly, we had to move them all outside.

I think my parents might have a secret side deal going with Jon, to see how quickly they can kill off our cats whenever we're gone. Wouldn't you? ;-)

Another fun filled weekend!

Jon's parents and sister, Sarah, arrived Friday afternoon to visit for the weekend. We met up with Jon's other sister, Catherine, and friend Nadia, for dinner that Friday night at one of our fave places, Vive Sol. Catherine surprised me with a(n early) birthday cake that she made from scratch! It was gorgeous and super duper yummy :)

One of the rare childless shots of me these days! ;-)

Thanks to Catherine for remembering her camera and taking these pics! :)

After dinner we headed back to our place where Logan got to show off his brand new bed to everyone. Tia Catherine immediately jumped in and snuggled with Logan under the covers to read a few bedtime stories. Is he spoiled or what?!?

Saturday we had a full day! Jon woke up early to snag some donuts for everyone, and once Abuelita ("Ita"), Abuelito ("Ito"), and Sarah arrived, we took off to hang out at Vasona Park. Logan rode the train with his grandparents and Aunt, a BIG hit, and also took a twirl on the carousel.

I know it may not look like it, but he actually did enjoy the train quite a bit. Still, check out the stern face, especially in this series of rapid shots! I couldn't stop laughing. :)

We also walked to one of the nearby playgrounds with a big airplane and firetruck to climb up and on and all over, which he enjoyed doing.

Since we were so close, we decided to lunch at a little cafe that Jon likes in Los Gatos. Unfortunately, the wait was a bit long and by the time we got seated, Logan was at his melting point. He was just too damn tired and hungry to enjoy our company - so Jon took him home to put him down for a nap (it was 2pm after all!) while the rest of us polished up a delicious lunch before heading home to rest ourselves.

That night, we met up with my parents at another place we love, the Taiwan Restaurant, for some delicious Chinese food. Logan was MUCH better behaved thank goodness and we all enjoyed some time visiting and catching up. After dinner, Jon and I took Logan over to the hotel that Alicia/Paul/Sarah were staying at since they wanted to have Logan spend the night. We got his bed set up for the night, got him in his pj's and then snuck out while he was distracted and exploring the hotel room. Apparently, he was a BREEZE to handle - reading his books a few times over and then turning in for the night without a fuss. He didn't wake up once through the night and even slept in the next morning, so late that Ita and Ito had to wake him up in time to meet us for breakfast! :)

Jon and I took advantage of the Logan-free night and caught a movie after we left the hotel. The movie, Cop Out, was about as good as you'd expect but it was wonderful to be able to turn off our brains for a couple of hours and have a few hearty good laughs.

Because of the time change however, we didn't get to sleep in! Oh well :) We met up with Ita, Ito, Sarah and Logan at Stacks early Sunday morning for some delicious breakfast to start off the day. Afterward, the three said their goodbyes, hitting the road back to LA about noon-time. Jon, Logan and I spent the rest of the day running errands, re-arranging some furniture in his room and taking care of a few chores before the work week hit us again.

A less crowded room - yippee!

We had a fantastic weekend visiting with Jon's family and so glad they were able to make the drive up from LA to see us! I know Logan really enjoyed all of the attention and love, as always. :)

Chatterbox

Almost overnight, it seems, and little Logan has turned into quite the chatterbox. I'm blaming it on his new classroom - which he absolutely LOVES - and where he's surrounded by older kids (since he just moved over, I'm guessing he's one of the youngest in the class). And, what's more, his classroom is next door to the Pre-K class which means he's exposed to 3-4 yr olds as well! (his class is mostly 2-3 yr old in range).

He's recently picked up a game that he loves to play on the ride home - or anywhere really - where he hides something (usually his "Big Kitty Cat" but he's also been known to hide his cars or food or anything else that happens to be in his hands) either behind his back or behind his head (when he's in the car seat).

Then he chants "Where'd it go? Where'd it go?" over and over and OVER and OVER.

AND OVER.

Until I finally say - I don't know Logan. Where is it? Is it hiding?

And he pulls it out from behind his back (or head) screaming "THERE IT IS!" All super proud of his accomplishment at being the best Sherlock Holmes of this century ever.

(Speaking of Sherlock Holmes - Jill and I stole away from the kiddos last weekend to watch it and I'm so glad we did. What a fun movie it was!)

Elephant

Last night my parents babysat Logan so that Jon and I could have a night on our own. It's been awhile since we've done that and it was really nice! We had a great dinner at one of our favorites, Thai Town, and then headed to see a movie (New Moon - neither of us cared much about).

When we dropped by this morning to pick Logan up, he was walking up and down the street with my dad, having a grand ol' time. He immediately dropped everything and came running toward our car when he saw us pull up - which always warms the heart. This time around, he had more trouble than usual getting used to the idea that he wasn't at home nor with his beloved Daddy (and Mommy). But my parents were still champs putting up with a few of his upset tantrums.

We've all been remarking at how quickly and how many words he's picking up day by day. He'll try one out for awhile and then move onto another word to use. He's really enjoying it. While changing him before taking off for lunch, he noticed his penis and pointed down at it exclaiming "ELEPHANT! ELEPHANT!" Once I put a new diaper on him he then said, "Bye Bye, Elephant!"

We all thought it was pretty hilarious. Especially since you can see how a little one might confuse the two. ;-)

Movie Reviews. Yes, plural.

Yesterday we woke up to the dogs barking like maniacs and discovered cars pulling up and parking in front of our house, and then leaving, and then new cars parking, and then leaving, every few minutes. Our next door neighbors were throwing a garage sale. So, we did like any good neighbor would and brought over a handful of items designated for the Goodwill, to sell instead.

We made out like bandits, with a total of $31.50 for the day. Wooo! The thrill of selling at a garage sale. ;-)

There have been a few movies out recently that Jon and I have wanted to see. So, my parents agreed to babysit Logan last night so that we could go to dinner (we tried out a restaurant in downtown Campbell that was pretty good!) and then catch a showing of District 9. We decided on District 9 over the others, mostly because we'd been hearing so many great reviews, it's a Peter Jackson movie (whom we like), and we were afraid someone would spoil it before we got to see it!

So, we saw it. And, it just blew my mind. It was really good. Intensely good. The background story built up in the beginning is very detailed but so interesting! The main actor (who's never acted before and who apparently improvised a lot of the lines while filming) was brilliant! It's unusually emotional, and you're trying to figure out who to root for more, the Aliens or the human? It's also extremely violent but, as I wrote to a friend of ours last night, it covered so many topics like prejudices, racism, loyalty and acts of loyalty, love, family and fear of the unknown....it's a movie for everyone. And everyone should see it! We can't wait for the prequel, or sequel (or please God, both!).

As we were walking out of the theatre, still talking about all the great themes and ground they covered in the movie, Jon saw a couple of guys sitting to the side waiting at the start of a line for another movie. It was late and we were curious what the movie was. We should have known, another movie we want to see, Inglourious Basterds!

So, what did we decide to do? We had a babysitter and could stay out late (and sleep in), so I took a place in line while Jon grabbed us another couple of tickets of course! :)

Inglourious Basterds was entertaining. It's also a violent and suspenseful movie (the opening scene keeps you gripping the edge of your seat!), but in the end (and mostly the end), we both felt like it was just another over-the-top overly indulgent Quentin Tarantino movie. Don't get me wrong, the soundtrack was awesome and the acting was top-notch. But, I guess we're just (finally?) getting a little tired of the Tarantino-esque movies. Can I say that? I think I just did.

We got home at a ridiculously late hour but it was so fun being able to cram two movies into one night and we actually stayed up a little longer talking about them both and reading reviews (which we had been avoiding 'til then) to see what others thought of the same movies. :) We passed out a bit later, but still woke up at dawn this morning because our bodies are conditioned to little Logan, I think.

Or else, we're officially old people now. :)
