I forgot to post this yesterday but it's amusing and shouldn't be forgotten. :)

I like my soccer coach because he's funny.
How is he funny?
Because he talks in Spanish.

Jon left early Wednesday morning for another trip to Europe. My head cold seems to be getting better, but my back is still pretty bad. I tried going into the office on Wednesday after Jon left, but was unable to sit down for a few minutes and ended up participating in a few meetings standing up. After a couple of hours of that, I decided it was silly to stick around in pain and went back home to continue lying down on ice and working, laptop on lap, from the couch.
I've had a few bad episodes in the evening, where my back pain twinges worse than usual, and is accompanied with nausea, woozy shakes and lightheadedness. Unfortunately, it was so bad yesterday evening that I didn't feel stable enough to drive to the boys' school to pick them up at the end of the day. THANKFULLY, I have a fantastic network of friends and Kim came to the rescue, once again!
Other than fighting the same head cold, the boys haven't caused me too many problems so far, so at least that is good.
It's going to be a very long 10 days without Jon here to help out, but we'll survive, one way or another! Wish us luck. :)

Loganism of the day
Mommy: Do you know how to say "cheese" in Spanish?
Logan: Yeah. Cheese in Spanish!
Logan: Yeah. Cheese in Spanish!

Uh oh, ¡Se Cayó!
One of the things I loved most about studying linguistics was the opportunity to peer into another culture through its use of language. Depending on how the language is used can give you an indication on how that particular society views life, relationships, norms, expectations... the list goes on and on.
I always thought it was funny that one way to say "I dropped it" in Spanish is "se cayó" which literally translates to "it fell".
You see the thought process there?
It wasn't MY fault. It was the object's fault.
Damn object. Why do you keep falling? All. On. Your. Own.
If Logan was more articulate, I'm pretty sure he would have had the same thought process, and the sameexcuse explanation for me, tonight.
What? I didn't throw it. I didn't even drop it, Mom.
It fell.

Speaking Spanish
Jon met Logan and I at one of our favorite taquerias for dinner tonight. I was holding Logan while ordering our food - in Spanish - and he literally pulled back and stared at me long and hard the entire time I spoke. The look on his face was priceless. It said "who the fuck is this woman and what did you do to my mom?!?"
When I smiled at him he relaxed a bit, grabbing at my mouth (as if the words I was speaking did not belong there).
Guess it's time to start looking for a spanish class to put him in soon! ;)
Quick update to my post the other night: Logan's preschool fixed our dilemma and have made a spot available for him in the next classroom next month afterall. Yes! (I can't help but think my email the other night helped "persuade" them to make the right decision). ;)
And, his two bottom molars have finally broken through. Now we just have those pesky canines to wait for....

Mr. Popular
Grandma Riedy and Aunt Sarah came in Friday night to visit Logan for a few days. We've been having a really nice visit, despite the crazy heat. Jon and I even got away yesterday for a little bit to run a few errands while they babysat - yeah! :)
