No more than three minutes alone...

I swear. I was out of the room for only a few minutes.

I can't even describe the panic and laughter that both hit me at the same time, the minute I saw my son shoving thousands of blueberries in his ears.

It was another one of those "What were you thinking?" moments but with a few expletives thrown in the middle.

We quickly marched off to a bath and detailed ear inspection (which he hated me for, of course) before bedtime. *sigh*

Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

Tonight we met with my parents and Kai for dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant (La Milpa) in honor of Cinco de Mayo, but mostly to celebrate Uncle Kai's fabulous news. He just got a new job as a Pharmaceutical Engineer at McGuff Pharmaceuticals - YAY KAI!!! :)

Sadly, the company is located down in Orange County, which means this Friday Kai will be moving (back) down to LA to start his new job and new life. We will definitely miss him, but are so super excited about this new opportunity for him that it more than makes up for it. Plus, his new pad is just a hop, skip and jump away from Disneyland, so I suspect we'll be visiting him very soon. ;-)

Last week a few readers complained I didn't have enough pics of Logan and Mama Me posted on the blog. If you know Jon, you know that if you ask him to take any pictures he'll take one, or maybe two quick snapshots at most, without framing the shot or really caring if your boob is hanging out or your double chin is showing. So, I tend to be the family photographer.

In any case, last Friday morning when I picked Logan up from my parents, I decided to grab my dad's camera and take a few shots of him perched perilously on the kitchen stool, eating pears for breakfast. And, remembering the requests of some Mommy/Logan pics, I asked Uncle Kai to take a few of me and Logan.

I leaned down next to Logan and asked him if he'd give me a kiss since, what's cuter than a toddler planting a big fat wet kiss on his mommy's lips? Right?

Oh, that's right. Full on mouth to mouth action because my son hasn't quite figured out that kisses are with CLOSED lips and not attacks to your face like he's biting (or licking?) you.

Yes. That's definitely cuter.

Giving Birth to Boys

An excerpt from a recent Dooce post about her daughter's play date and the inevitable pile of toys that resulted.

At one point I was like, wait a minute, how did you guys manage to get this box of games down from the top of your closet, Leta? She didn't say a word and instead slowly tilted her head to the side while slyly turning up the corners of her mouth. And I knew instantly that I should just carry on with my life without being burdened by the answer to that question. I imagine that the exact same exchange happens almost every hour with women who have given birth to boys.

This is EXACTLY what I have in store for me. EXACTLY.

Typical Monday Morning

I've been scurrying around checking emails, tidying up the house and packing up the car to (finally) get out of the house this morning. Logan was quiet in our room, but I figured it was because he was so entranced by Sesame Street.

I came in the room to put on his sweater, sunblock and load him in the car, and here's what I found.

Poor little guy passed out with all the lights on and TV blaring. I understand, I'd do the same thing if I didn't have to get my ass to work and participate in a Bake for Hope bake sale today! :-P

Update: If the above weren't cute enough....

I decided to let Logan nap for a few and was working in the office when I hear some shuffling and movement on our bed. I thought perhaps Logan woke up, but DANG it's awfully quiet still. I creep into the bedroom to see how he's doing and find Lola has snuck up on the bed herself, snuggled right next to him. :)

One of these things is not like the other

I often wonder what the hell goes through my kid's head - about anything really - but usually when he puts stuff away or reorganizes things in our house.

How is this supposed to be the appropriate spot for the Clorox wipes?

Then again, it's easily accessible and right at Logan's eyesight, as opposed to hidden away and hard to reach underneath the kitchen sink. And, Mommy uses these anytime anyone in the house makes a mess (which is quite often).

So, perhaps, this is the appropriate spot after all. ;-)

Puddles and Gutters and Snails, oh my!

With rainy weather comes puddles, noisy gutters and slimy snails. All of which Logan discovered for the first time today with much glee. He loved stomping and splish-splashing in the puddles, dropping rocks into the puddles, and popping bubbles that were forming on top of the puddles. He was soaking wet but could care less. PUDDLES Mom! PUUUUUDDDDDLESSSSS!

I think we may be buying him some rain boots this weekend.

Once he got bored of the puddles, it was onto the gutters. He sat for several minutes inspecting the gutters, putting his hand up the gutter, trying to grab the water and put it back in the gutter. He tried stuffing leaves up the gutter and was annoyed when not only would they not stay in the gutter, but they'd stick to his hands too. JEEZ.

Once he saw our neighbor's house had a gutter spouting water as well, it was all mayhem up in these here parts. OHMYGOD what to do what to do what to do!! He'd run back and forth between the two gutters "catching" the running water, peering and leaning and pointing and splashing. I finally had to steer him away when he discovered he could put his foot under the gutter and - forget the puddles Mom - THIS was how you got soaking wet!

On marching back toward the house, we stumbled across several snails making their way across the front pathway. We stopped to inspect them, but the minute Logan noticed the snails quickly shrinking inside their shells (after he tried touching them), it freaked him out. He backed up, alarmed and whimpering as he hovered next to me. I picked one up to show him they were totally harmless - and that's when he decided to touch the bottom of the snail and then put his finger to his mouth. I stopped him before he got that far, but those little snails better watch out. Logan may forget about his veggie Mom and take up escargot instead.

Bath time soon followed, since he was pretty grimy from all the rainy day outdoor exploring we did. Of course, Logan is now IN LOVE with bath time (anything water-related really) and couldn't get enough of it. He loves it when I let the water stream down into the tub like a huge waterfall.

He also loves it when we turn the jets on and get the water super bubbly and loud, massaging his butt. It was tough getting him out on my own (Jon is at a Giants game with my dad tonight and wasn't around to help), but I managed, wrapping him into a little burrito like the good ol' days.

We finished the evening with a HUGE dinner (I guess splashing in rain puddles works up an appetite) and a late bedtime. He passed out in my lap before he even had a chance to kiss me good night.

Sleeping Beauty

What you can't hear from this pic is the purr-like snoring he's doing,
on our way to school this morning.

But his state is absolutely how I feel after the last couple of weeks
that have passed us by in a whirlwind of events. A couple of days ago
was Jon and my anniversary, but Logan wasn't too cooperative that
night so we never made it out to dinner as planned.

Last night, however, I dropped him off at my parents so I could take
the train up to the city to meet Jon for a dinner with his co-workers.
We had a really nice time and got home so late we decided to leave
Logan at my parent's overnight and just pick him up this morning
instead. Even with a full night's sleep, we were both still exhausted
this morning. I think we need a few more withdrawals from the sleep
bank before we're fully functional again.

This morning Logan was beautiful and jolly and all together his happy
self. I'm not sure what my parents do to him during his stays, but he
ALWAYS passes out like this afterward. It's so damn cute! :)
