Family Visit

Abuelitos Riedy and Tia Sarah came to visit us this weekend.  We had a nice time visiting and generally eating too much food.  Isn't that how it always is when you're together with family?  ;-)

Friday night we ate at our favorite, La Milpa, where Tia Catherine and my parents joined us as well. It was Alicia and Paul's anniversary (technically Saturday, but we were celebrating on Friday) so Catherine also made a yummy carrot cake for dessert.

I forgot I brought my camera with me, but I did manage to get this awesome shot of my mom and Alicia together at dinner.  :)

And, I didn't take too many pics while visiting either, but I did manage to snag a couple of shots of the two boys with Abuelito and Abuelita before they had to take off to drive back home today.  As always, we had a great visit - thanks for coming!  :)

My grandmother's rum cake

There was no Splenda, margarine or lowfat milk harmed in the making of this cake.

Yummy!

I saved aside a couple of cupcakes for our dessert tonight. Logan and I shared one and he proceeded to lick off all the frosting, so I guess he liked it? ;-)

Going Away Party

The Director at Logan's school is retiring. Off to the goodbye party, almond cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting in hand.

"Cooking" Cupcakes

Logan helped me make Snickerdoodle cupcakes for my Stella and Dot party today. As you can see, things were a bit messier with his help, but he definitely approved. ;-)

Returning the Hand-Me-Downs

While baking some Chocolate Chip Walnut Banana Bread, I decided to finally tackle the project that's been staring back at me from the couches in the living room. The challenge? To sort and organize Logan's clothes (from approx. 9 to 18 mths), so that I could return them back to the lovely Jodoins, who have so graciously let us use Robert's hand me downs for the last 2 yrs!! (and who need to start sorting through the clothes themselves, since they are expecting another boy in a couple of months!)

While going through some of the clothes, I came across one of Logan's first pair of shoes. They are so ridiculously small (size 0) that I had to put them up against his current shoes (size 7) just so you could see the difference (remember, his current shoes are also small!).

In case you weren't following my blog back in the good ol' days of '08, here's an old pic of him when he actually fit those size 0 shoes! (He's a little over 2 months old and in case you didn't believe me, there was actually a day when he didn't have so much friggin' hair....)

When I was finally finished, I had 3 bins of clothes, 1 bin of shoes/hats/socks, and rewarded with a house smelling of delicious freshly baked banana bread. Yummm!

On a Baking Roll!

I recently bought a Kitchen Aid 5-quart stand mixer since I've always wanted one to help with my baking and who are we kidding, they are also so goddamn sexy sitting on your counter top! ;-)

So, I made another batch of cupcakes on Friday (carrot cake with the leftover cream cheese frosting I still had), this time with the mixer rather than by hand and OMFG what a difference a mixer makes! I didn't know what to do with all the spare time I had, let alone how much BETTER it is for me and my back/shoulders! (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it)

I brought the cupcakes for dessert both Friday and Saturday night when we visited the Hicksons (the Jodoins also joined us last night), playing board games while we ran ~6 (!!) loads of laundry since our washing machine is still broken! Ugh. It's amazing how much more laundry you accumulate with a toddler. Thankfully we have extremely gracious, tolerant, understanding and giving friends. Thanks again Kim and Nathan!!

This afternoon I catch a flight to Seattle for a conference all week (this will be the longest I've been away from Logan!!). I get back Thursday night and then we three will hop on a flight to San Diego on Friday for (Eric and) Jill's baby shower. Which means the next week is going to be a little crazy and most likely sparse on the blog front.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Weekend Update

I'm exhausted and not looking forward to returning to work tomorrow. So, just a quick post before I go lay down and ice my back. ;-)
  • I worked from home on Friday mostly so I could get some grocery shopping done during a break, to prep for baking cupcakes that night.
  • Nathan stopped by Friday night to hang out with us and play Dominion (a new card game Jon got) once Logan went to bed.
  • We discovered our (practically brand new!) washing machine broke - so Jon spent Saturday running errands, including buying parts to fix the machine and composite decking (for a deck we're going to build just outside the doggy door), while Logan took one of the longest naps in history (~4 hrs, 20 min)!
  • Saturday night, Jon's sister Catherine came down from the city, last minute (since our sitter we had lined up couldn't make it after all), to babysit Logan while Jon and I met up with the Jodoins, Chouns and Hicksons for a quick dinner and long wait in line (but we were first!) for the new Harry Potter movie. It was good - but I haven't read the last of the books yet so I can't comment on how it compares to the book.
  • This morning we got up bright and early to head to the East Bay for our friend's Eleanor and Audrey's 3rd Birthday Party. Logan had a blast at My Gym; the hit was toward the end when he got a turn zip-lining across the room. :) Here's a quick video I took of it! (notice the excellent background music they were playing! hehe)

  • We took off about noon to try and get Logan to take another long nap, but weren't successful, as he only slept an hour (aiiieeee!!). Jon worked on the washing machine while I frosted the cupcakes in preparation for the next party we had scheduled.
  • About 4pm, we three and my parents headed to the Paluska's house on the "West" Bay (San Carlos), for a laid back BBQ and play date with their kids Lucas (age 5) and Margot (age 2.5). We had an excellent time and the cupcakes were a hit!
Hope everyone had a great weekend and stayed as cool as possible in all of this heat! Yowza.

Chocolate (with chocolate chips) cupcakes and cream cheese frosting

Delicious.

Typical Monday Morning

I've been scurrying around checking emails, tidying up the house and packing up the car to (finally) get out of the house this morning. Logan was quiet in our room, but I figured it was because he was so entranced by Sesame Street.

I came in the room to put on his sweater, sunblock and load him in the car, and here's what I found.

Poor little guy passed out with all the lights on and TV blaring. I understand, I'd do the same thing if I didn't have to get my ass to work and participate in a Bake for Hope bake sale today! :-P

Update: If the above weren't cute enough....

I decided to let Logan nap for a few and was working in the office when I hear some shuffling and movement on our bed. I thought perhaps Logan woke up, but DANG it's awfully quiet still. I creep into the bedroom to see how he's doing and find Lola has snuck up on the bed herself, snuggled right next to him. :)
